Pre - Lim Contents Page

This is my pre - lim contents page.
The idea behind my magazine was sports around school and it is aimed at everyone, mainy boys because they are the ones who are more likely into sport.
Doing the pre - lim task has helped me with photoshop and showed i need to start thinking about my final music magazine.
I used the photo's of the basketball game becuase this is a big discussion topic around school and whether they have won or not so that is the main story in my sports magazine.

Contents page Anaylsis of Men's Lifestyle Magazine - Men's Health

Men's Health magazine is a fitness magazine and the target audience is 25 - 40 year olds. It is a typical male magazine which helps men to look their best and gives tips on how to tone their bodies.

The font is plain and not fancy which shows the seriousness of the reader and how it may be aimed at the older audience. The colour scheme of black, blue and greys also fits with the target audience and shows how it's a manly magazine. .
The main image of a women's back holds up most of the page and this is the first thing you notice when you look at the page. Below the image it says ' She's got the key, you've got the secrets - we give you access to her dark side'. This is like it's teasing the reader and it will make them read on. The main thing you can see about this image is the padlock and the rest of the image has been edited and made to look darker.
With each section it has a page number to accompany the text. This is so the reader can go straight to the page of their choice and read the article instead of taking ages to flick though just to find it.
On the bottom left it has a copy of the front cover and who the photographer is and also where the clothing is from that the model is wearing.

Pre-Lim task- Front Cover of sports magazine.

This was our pre-lim task and the first time we got to use photoshop.

The main focus of the magazine was a sports magazine. It was aimed at the whole school and it gave you information about the clubs and matches around school.

The central dominant image is of a basketball player and the reason i have chosen this is because it's a big part if the school and alot of matches are played by the team so when i did the front cover they had thier first pre season game so i thought it was appropiate for the magazine.

The colour scheme of my front cover was influenced by the image and i felt that red and blue went well together. Also out school colour is blue and that also is a reason behind my choice.

Mood Board

This is my mood board and it is showing the type of things my reader may like. It has things from X Factor and some popular artists in the charts at the moment. It also shows some films they might like and i've gone for the chick flicks as my target audience is teenage girls.

Analysis of Masthead- 'Chart Toppers'

I am calling my magazine 'Chart Toppers' because my magazine is all about the latest charts. I thought of the idea because the magazine will feature all the artists in the top 10 that week and also the high climbers in the top 40. Chart Toppers represents the artists and how they have topped the charts in that week and hit the number 1 spot. I also think it tells you what the magazine is about before you even read it and what it will contain.

Anaylsis of X Magazine.

X Magazine is a new magazine that was launched in Septemeber 2010, which focuses on X Factor and other Pop artists. It is aimed at X Factor fans, mainly girls 14-18 year olds. I feel this magazine is a big influence to mine because alot of the artists that are in the chrats at the moment have been on X Factor as a special guest or as a contestant. We also have similar target audience.
'X' magazine is a big competitor and i think the masthead is something that helps the magazine sell. fans of the X Factor won't be looking at the contents before they buy it, they will simply see that it's about X Factor and automatically buy it. I wouldn't say the masthead was an influence to my magazine.

The magagzine was published in the UK by Fremantle Media.
It is a weekly magazine and costs £1.95.
X Factor is a magazine, website and also a popular television programme.
Font size and choice of colour:
The Masthead is more a symbol than font. I think it is clearly showing that it is a magazine focusing on X Factor. The size of font for the main cover line, it is alot bigger than the rest because it is accompanies the central dominant image.
The Content: Most of the content is about the finalists on the X Factor and it has interviews with them but also it has interviews with other artists that are in the charts at the moment or if they have been a special guest on the X Factor.
Images: Some of ther images are staged but they also include action shot images of the contestants getting their make up done.

Analysis of Smash Hits Magazine

Although Smash Hits folded in 2006, i still feel this is a big influence to my magazine. It is a pop based magazine which is aimed at teenage girls between 13-16 years old which is similar to mine. I would say that it is the later magazines that would be more of an influence than the earlier stages of Smash Hits because it's more for the young teenagers.

The magazine was publised in the UK by EMAP in 1978.
It was a Biweekly magazine.
It folded in 2006 but the name stays alive from a TV Music Channel and an Online Website.

Font size and choice of colour: The font used for the masthead gives a sort of bubble writing effect which shows the magazine is quite childish and it uses pinks and green which are very child like colours so again this would give the effect of the target audince being for the younger generation.

The Content: The main focus of his magazine is Pop so the content will include interviews with Pop artists and reviews on new album's and single's released.

Images: Some of the images include shots of artists that paparazzi have taken which show that the magazine also includes gossip articles about the artists and not just serious interviews.
